OUR CULTURE

"By recognizing the importance of maintaining our cultural traditions, we create a sense of belonging in a new home away from home. Our traditions don’t just connect us to the past; they strengthen us in the present and will guide us in the future."

Abelina Pablo Perez
Guatemalan Weaver

Abelina started weaving traditional Mayan textiles at a very young age. Her mother and grandmother passed on this tradition to her. Most of the patterns and colors are combinations of designs that are kept in her memories, the materials have to be purchased and mailed all the way from her homeland “Todos Santos Guatemala”.

To weave a handbag could take up to 2 months, Sedalina and thousands of colorful lana wool are use to create beautiful and unique art pieces.

DAY OF THE DEAD CELEBRATION 2024

Every year, Arcoíris Cultural, in partnership with Ballet Oregon Coast, continues the tradition of celebrating Día de Muertos. This event provides an opportunity to remember our loved ones and celebrate culture and community. It is celebrated in a festive environment with music, dance, food, and a variety of family-friendly activities. Local artisans also participate, sharing their traditional products and crafts, further enriching the experience. Artists present their beautiful work, making this celebration unique and  meaningful for all.

Stay tuned, as in 2025, we will continue to prepare this community tradition.
